Volunteer Assignments

Listed below are some of the ways you can volunteer. However, if you have special skills to offer, please call us so we can discuss how you can best use your talents to help our veterans.

Volunteer Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Van Drivers
Pick-up veteran patients for outpatient clinic appointments at VAMC Fayetteville and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC).  Hours: as needed.   We also run a daily van from Fayetteville to Little Rock, Arkansas.  Hours: leaves Fayetteville at 6:00 a.m. and returns approximately 6:00 p.m.  To fill this role, you must have a current drivers’ license and automobile insurance and pass a physical exam.
Information Desk Volunteer
Greets visitors and assists with information and clinic locations. Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, or 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
Parking Lot Golf Cart Shuttle Drivers

Assist outpatients and visitors in our large parking areas with access to the medical center. To fill this role, you must have a current drivers’ license and pass a physical exam.  Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, or 12:00 noon - 3:30 p.m.

Volunteer Office Assistant
Assist variety of medical or administrative offices in the medical center. Duties include filing, shredding, answering phones, and greeting and directing patients and visitors. Open Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Pharmacy Assistant
Assist inpatient pharmacy with pre-pack medication or at the pharmacy window. Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, or 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
Escort Volunteers
Provide assistance with pushing patients in wheelchairs to their scheduled appointments and delivery of items to offices as needed. Open hours 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Coffee Cart
Serve coffee to inpatients and in outpatient clinics and waiting areas. Open hours: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Comfort Cart Volunteer
Visit inpatients and distribute comfort items as needed. Hours: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Magazine / Book Cart
Sort donated magazines and books; take the cart to designated waiting areas and visit inpatients. Open hours: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Vital Signs Volunteer
Take outpatient vital signs. Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, or 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
Lab Runner
Take lab specimens from first floor ancillary lab to third floor Lab. Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, or 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
Fayetteville National Cemetery
Office: Duties include filing, shredding, answering phone, and greeting and directing visitors. Grounds: Assist with gardening and upkeep of grounds Open Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Nutrition & Food Service
Tray Setup: Assists with setting outpatient food trays and serving. Open Hours 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
EKG Welcome Desk
Greets patients and visitors; notifies technician of arrival. Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, or 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
Voluntary Service Inventory Manager
Inventories Voluntary Service storeroom supplies; keeps storeroom neat; makes distribution. Open Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, or 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
Craft Cart Volunteer
Loads craft cart supplies; distributes to inpatients. Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, or 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
